ACTIVITIES19th Century Dinner and Snowshoe Hike Canada has always been known for its legendary cold winters and mountains of snow. For hundreds of years, the snowshoe was the most practical way to move about. In Quebec, military teams were formed and race events organized to encourage physical fitness and competition. In the 19th century, groups of urban gentlemen and ladies continued this legacy and in 1843, the Montreal Snowshoe Club was formed - the first of its kind. A typical outing consisted of a tramp (sometimes over a considerable distance,) a stop for a meal or snack at a favourite inn and a tramp home. Snowshoe clubs began to appear elsewhere as the popularity of snowshoeing increased with tramps sometimes boasting upwards of 200 participants. Clubs often sported uniforms and had their own songs, marches and mascots. Come and catch a glimpse into Canada's snowshoeing heritage by reliving one of these snowshoe outings through our special period dinner and hike. $60 + GST per person Package includes: Dinner and beverages, chairlift, snowshoe rental and guided hike. |
