    Explore Okanagan Powder

Take advantage of The Cove Lakeside Resort’s central location and close proximity to three amazing ski resorts, all within approximately a one hour drive.

Big White Ski Resort is the second largest family ski resort in British Columbia with one of Canada's largest, modern lift systems. The mountain's amazing 2,765 acres of skiable terrain offers impeccably groomed runs suitable for downhill skiers of all abilities. Book your shuttle to the mountain from Cheers Okanagan tours for just $49 per person return, with pick up and drop off right from The Cove Lakeside Resort.

Silver Star Mountain Resort, with its champagne powder and varied terrain attract every kind of skier to BC’s third largest ski area. The colourful mid-mountain village offers a true ski-in, ski-out access to the slopes, and Canada’s first all-inclusive lift ticket provides affordable, family-friendly fun for guests. With four distinct mountain faces and 132 runs, the progressive terrain is perfect for learning. For the more adventurous, the backside of the mountain is an uncrowded paradise of over 1,900 acres of steep and deep, black and double black diamond runs.

Apex Mountain Resort is south of The Cove, just outside of Penticton. Apex receives the perfect mix of large amounts of precipitation, combined with low humidity and the dry champagne powder snow we’re famous for, is born! And because Apex Mountain Resort is the only mountain in the Okanagan that faces northeast, those beautiful powder snow crystals are less affected by the sun and the famous light, dry powder snow can survive for days after a snowfall. With an average of 600 cm of this special snow falling each season, Apex provides the moderate winter conditions and dry power snow craved by skiers and snowboarders alike.

    Sip Okanagan Wine

Spend the day taking scenic photos of the snow covered mountains while sipping on delicious local wine for the ultimate winter experience. Enjoy the beauty and serenity of quiet tasting rooms in the winter season and book a wine tour with one of our preferred partners.

As you're planning your Okanagan wine tour, be sure to ask about ice wines and which wineries produce and sell it. Icewine is traditionally a unique sweet wine produced from the juice of naturally frozen grapes that are grown and picked in ideal winter conditions. It’s the perfect treat to pair with a charcuterie and cheese board from Bonfire Restaurant.

  • Wine Tasting in the Okanagan Valley

    Article re-posted from PostcardsByHannah:

When you think of wine where do you think of? France? Italy? South Africa? I doubt Canada springs to mind, but hopefully that will change once you have read a little further.

We knew when we were planning our Canada trip that it would be beautiful but hard work and very full on so we wanted to schedule some time in for relaxation, I knew from the first photo I found of the Okanagan Valley that this would be the perfect spot to sit down and put our feet up.

The region boasts a sunny and dry climate, whilst we were there the sun shone and temperatures hovered between the mid to late 20’s. We chose to stay at The Cove Lakeside Resort, this family-friendly resort stretches down to the Okanagan Lake, offering gorgeous views across the water and the hills beyond.

The resort is a full service, all-suite property meaning extremely spacious rooms and stunning lakeside views. We also had a large balcony which we enjoyed both evenings.

We arrived around lunchtime on the Saturday and checked in, to maximise our time here we decided to visit a couple of local wineries to the resort in the afternoon. Whilst the Cove is situated on the lakeside, surrounded by stunning scenery, you are in a very convenient location to West Kelowna meaning you can head out to shops and restaurants easily.

We visited Mission Hill and Quail’s Gate wineries, two very popular and picturesque spots around a 10/15 minutes drive away from where we were staying. It was a long weekend in Canada so you would have thought it would have all been extremely busy but it was pretty perfect! We were driving so we were here to admire the scenery, not the wine!

We were tired so didn’t want to venture far for dinner, we ended up at Bonfire Restaurant which is part of the resort. This suited us perfectly as it was casual, delicious and offered lake views. I enjoyed a steak sandwich and chips, they won me over with the garlic mayo, I would 100% recommend dining here if you ever have the pleasure of staying.

The next day we were picked up early from the hotel by Okanagan Country Wine Tours to commence the wine tour that we had arranged with Tripadvisor Attractions.

Our guide was super friendly, as were the other people on the tour. This was a small group tour which suited us, meaning there were just 6 of us in total, offering flexibility over timings and where we visited. We managed to visit over 6 wineries, they really are dotted all over the countryside here.

I would highly recommend taking a wine tour if you end up in this corner of the world, it means you can enjoy as much wine as you fancy without having to kill the budget on taxis to take you to and from each place.

This day was one of my favourites on the whole trip, the sun was shining, each winery was beautiful, we met so many friendly people and we also ate great food (and drank great wine of course). The region is not on the direct route between the national parks and Vancouver so can often get overlooked by tourists, we came across many Canadians but not many British which we were surprised about. If you are considering a trip to British Columbia then this is definitely a destination not to be missed.

PostcardsByHannah is run by Hannah, who also posts about her Britain travels on InstaBritain. Hannah has always worked in the travel industry and is now a travel blogger and instagrammer.

At The Cove Lakeside Resort, we recognize how beneficial practicing yoga is for our guests. Attending a yoga retreat at our resort will offer a transformational vacation unlike any other!

Our Kelowna team has carefully crafted yoga-retreat packages that vary from 4, 5 or 7 days as well as optional drop-in sessions throughout the summer. Our ultimate Yoga Retreat sessions will be held on the shores of Okanagan Lake for a uniquely stunning and relaxing retreat experience.

Here are 3 reasons why a yoga retreat at The Cove Kelowna resort will be the most beneficial getaway you take this summer.

    • Physical Wellness & Health

    • Mental Wellness

    • Connection With Nature

    Physical Wellness & Health

Yoga is one of the oldest and most practiced forms of physical activity. It is believed to have originated in India during the Golden Age, nearly 26,000 years ago. The purpose is to find peace within yourself by focusing on the union between self and spirit. When you tap into your inner peace, you will benefit from a myriad of physical advantages.

Practicing yoga regularly increases your health and body awareness. Additionally, yoga will increase your flexibility, strength, stamina, relaxation and balance. It also has the ability to reduce stress and joint pain, therefore contributing to your overall health.

    Mental Wellness

Yoga also has exceptional benefits for your mental wellbeing. Yoga gives you space to detox digitally, which will promote a positive mental state.

By focusing on your mental wellbeing through calming and mindful practices, you can recharge and cleanse any negative patterns that are affecting your demeanor and mood. Silence is one of the most effective medicines in the fight against stress. By the end of your yoga retreat, you will have the resources and inspiration to bring your yoga practice into your daily life for a more mindful and profound daily existence.

    Connection With Nature

  • Planning a Large Event in West Kelowna? Here’s What You Need to Do

Planning a large event can be stressful at the best of times, especially if it is not something you do on a day to day basis. When you have to plan a corporate event or a Christmas party, your to-do list can seem like a mountain of tasks that you have to attempt to scale. How many business cards do we need? What hor d'oeuvres should be served?

Take a deep breath and a step back- planning a large event doesn’t have to be complicated! The Cove Lakeside Resort in West Kelowna has put together a simple set of rules that you can follow to make the orchestration of your next event a breeze!

    1. Understand Your Objectives

Start with your end goal in mind. Why have you been assigned the task of planning this event? What are you hoping to accomplish with the gathering? Perhaps you are collecting the various branches of your corporation in one location to share insights and plan for the future? If you are having a Christmas party, are you focusing on year end recognition or simply looking to blow off some steam and build the relationships within your team?

Your core objective will be the foundation of all event related decisions from here on out.

    2. Define Your Audience

Who are you hoping will attend your event? Define your target attendees and construct a guest list as soon as possible. Once you have determined who your guests are, look to analyze their specific demographics so you can determine the feel and style your event should feature. At this stage you can also begin to think of venue options based on size restraints now that you know how many guests will be attending.

    3. Pick Your Date and Time

If you are having a Christmas party, you probably want to host the event sometime in December. It is important to evaluate your audience and determine when they will be able to attend your event with ease. If your group of attendees is local and middle aged, they may not be able to attend a late event during the week because they have busy lives and children to care for. Look to maximize turnout and avoid conflicts with other important dates, such as major holidays. Call us at 1-877-762-2783 for availability at The Cove!

    4. Determine your Budget

The amount of funds that you have to play with will determine all the details of your event. By constructing a budget beforehand, you can keep track of all your finances and avoid unwanted surprises down the road. There are many aspects to consider at this stage including food, beverages, giveaways, AV equipment etc.

There have been many employees that have been tasked with planning a large event but have not been provided with enough funds. A detailed budget will give you peace of mind but it will also be a powerful tool to show your boss or client before the planning progresses any further.

    5. Choose an Appropriate Venue

You want your venue to be large enough to accommodate all of your guests but you also want it to mirror your central theme and have the ability to accommodate all of your functional needs. What type of environments do your guests usually choose?

Here at the Cove, we have a refined and rustic environment that is nestled in the most beautiful location of the Okanagan Valley. Guests are often stunned with views of Okanagan Lake, which sits right at our doorstep. We might be a little biased- but we truly believe that our venue will blow your guests away. We have spaces designed to accommodate a wide range of event sizes, from small intimate groups in a boardroom, to quaint weddings of 60 guests. We even have a grand ballroom that will fit up to 150 guests with ease!

    6. Select Your Food

Every great event features great food. If your guests are hungry, they won’t be able to pay attention to whatever the objective of the event is. Most venues will have their own kitchen that can supply foods, which is also true for The Cove. When you are inviting your guests try to take dietary restrictions beforehand (gluten free, vegetarian etc). If you do not inform your venue of these requirements beforehand, it can be difficult to devise a suitable solution on the fly.

With an amazing fine dining restaurant on property, you can say that we have an appreciation for great food, which is an asset that we always incorporate into our events when requested!

    7. Invite Your Guests

Now that you have the important details decided, you can formally invite your guests. The sooner you can do this, the better, as they will have more time to schedule it into their busy schedules. Email invitations work great but if you are looking to leave a lasting impression, have some old fashion physical invites created and send them to their office!

Remember, it is important to work closely with the venue that you choose and ensure that between their staff and your organization, all the bases are covered.

  • The Cove Kicks Off Fall with Reds, Whites and Blues!

As the last days of summer slip away, the perfect time to embrace all the wonderful aspects of an Okanagan autumn has arrived. The air has begun to clear, the leafs will soon transition into their warm fall hues and the winemakers are ready to initiate their harvests. Comfy sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes and deep glasses of velvety red wine all help with our transition into the cooler days ahead. Here at The Cove, we like to kick off the season of fall with a bang and celebrate with an event we call “Reds, Whites, & Blues”.

What and When is “Reds, Whites & Blues”?

Reds, Whites & Blues is a fantastic fusion of Okanagan wine, food and music, all placed on the beautiful waterfront of Okanagan Lake. Whether you are a Okanagan resident or are simply passing through on vacation, this is a party you don’t want to miss. Yes, as the name implies, you will be able to indulge in a wide range of world class red wines, white wines and blues music simultaneously!

This is will be the 6th annual event and we plan to keep the momentum rolling with a plethora of amazing local wineries and the Bonfire Restaurant to excite our guests palates. Keep your eye open for these local rockstars:

    -Quail’s Gate

    -Mission Hill

    -Mt. Boucherie Winery

    -The Hatch

    -Volcanic Hills

    -Kalala Organic Winery

These businesses have a reputation in Kelowna for delivering some of the most tantalizing and delicious food and wine in the entire region.

This year, the event will be held on Friday, September 29th, with reception starting at 6:30PM. The reception will run for approximately one hour, with the Chef Stations opening up at 7:30PM. At 9:30PM there will be a cash bar that will open up, which will fuel the dance party which will last until approximately 11:30PM.

    Clues About the Blues

The perfect pairing to an epic event is an atmosphere full of soulful harmonies, rhythms and musical injections. Once again, the amazing Sherman (Tank) Doucette will headline the show and is sure to have the crowd grooving along to the wavering tunes of his harmonica.

Sherman Doucette is originally from Saskatchewan but left there early on with only his love for music and a twenty dollar bill. In Vancouver, Sherman became infatuated with the Chicago blues style and found his calling playing in a series of local blues bands. Sherman has since played with some legendary musicians such as John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Sonny Land Slim, Pinetop Perkins, Jim Byrnes and Long John Baldry.

Today he proudly calls the Okanagan his home where he is constantly performing and recording with his band, “TANKful of Blues”. He promises to bring incredible passion and conviction to the event and will give attendees a new found love for blues.

The best way to secure your pass to Reds, Whites & Blues is to call The Cove Office at (250)- 707-1814. We have package deals starting at $219.00 per person, which is based on double occupancy. This package includes one night stay in a luxurious bedroom suite and a ticket to the event.

    Okanagan Wine

The area surrounding The Cove Lakeside Resort contains some of the best wineries in Canada. The wineries in this region cater to everyone from first time sippers to well trained sommeliers, typically offering tastings from 10 AM to 6 or 7 PM in the fall months. While you are waiting for the estates to unlock their doors, you can start your day off with a locally sourced breakfast from our world class restaurant at the resort, Bonfire.

After enjoying some of Chef Fowke’s delicious creations, it’s time to experience some of the award-winning wineries nearby.

You have two options when enjoying the wine in West Kelowna. You could opt to join a tour and be guided around to various locations with the knowledge of an experienced guide at your side. We recommend Distinctly Wine Tours or Okanagan Wine Tours as they offer a vast array of tour options including lake cruises and golf infused wine experiences.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous, you can create your own wine tour and guide yourself around. Some of the famous wineries of West Kelowna that you won’t want to miss include Mission Hill, Quails Gate, and Volcanic Hills. Each of these wineries will offer an impressive view of the Valley and have dining on-site. If you are looking to try a unique option, we highly recommend going to say hi to the eclectic team over at The Hatch. Last year The Hatch was rated the 9th best winery in all of Canada and have a potential claim for the title of the most unique winery in B.C.

There are many pristine golf courses that have placed their greens amongst the ends seas of vines, coupled with a skyline full of rocky peaks. The views are just as breathtaking as the fairways, making a round of West Kelowna golf a perfect addition to any vacation at The Cove.

We recommend inquiring with Shannon Lake or Two Eagles Golf for amazing experiences right in the heart of West Kelowna. If you are willing to take a short drive 40 minutes to East Kelowna, you can indulge in a world class experience and book a tee time with Tower Ranch Golf Club. This course has been rated by Travel+Leisure as the 4th best golf course in the world and will challenge your skills and appease your eyes all day.

Perhaps you are looking for a little more adventure during your stay in West Kelowna.

Okanagan Adventures offer just about every experience you can think of. You could go parasailing or rafting on one of the many crystal clear lakes or rivers. They can put you in a go-kart or on a motorcycle for an afternoon of speed or launch you airborne with a zipline or hang gliding excursion.

If you prefer to mix in some competition into your daily dose of adrenaline, head over to Safari Ridge Adventure Park to join a game of paintball, outdoor laser tag, or archery battles.

The Beauty of the Valley is Found in Nature

Although there are hundreds of businesses in the Okanagan that offer unique and exciting experiences, one of the best ways to spend your time is to appreciate the allure of the Valley itself.

You can head to the Bear Creek Provincial Park, which is located along the shores of Okanagan Lake, offering 400 meters of sandy beaches and extensive hiking trails. A highlight of this park is the picture perfect canyon which has been carved into the rock over thousands of years by the waters of Bear Creek.

Another option is the Glen Canyon Regional Park which offers 74 hectares of land in its natural state, structured around Powers Creek. If you don’t have the urge to be completely immersed in greenery, you and your family can enjoy the free beach at Gellatly Bay Aquatic Park. This park also has a full designated dog park so your furry family friends can join in on the fun too.

As you travel around West Kelowna you will notice you are always in close proximity to the water, which is the resource that supports another world class offering in the Okanagan - fishing.

Whether you are looking to chase bass, salmon or trout, the Valley offers the opportunity to boat the catch of a lifetime. If you are not sure where to start, connect with Rodney’s REEL Outdoors for advice or to set up a fully guided trip.
