Investing in the Future of Tourism

The Cove Lakeside Resort is proud to announce Ava Podmorrow as the 2025 recipient of the Derek Trethewey Legacy Award, presented in partnership with the Okanagan College School of Business. Named in honour of The Cove's late founder, Derek Trethewey, this annual $3,000 scholarship supports a full-time Bachelor of Business Administration student specializing in Tourism and Hospitality. The award reflects Derek's long-standing commitment to education, community, and the future of the local tourism industry.

Our General Manager, Brent Lavery, and Marketing Manager, Kirsten de Jager, had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Student Awards Celebration at Okanagan College on Thursday, November 20, 2025, where Ava was formally recognized among fellow award recipients. The event highlighted the meaningful connections created between students, faculty, and industry partners, and reinforced the impact of continued support for post-secondary educations. 

Originally from Oliver and now based in Kelowna, Ava is majoring in business with a focus on tourism and hospitality. Ava represents the next generation of leaders who will help shape the future of tourism in our region. The Cove Lakeside Resort is honoured to support Ava and remains committed to investing in emerging talent that strengthens our local tourism community.
